3 Tips for Designing Your Dream Kitchen

Kitchens are often where families spend most of their time. It’s where we start the day, and it’s also the space where we make tons of family memories.

Your kitchen should look great, feel warm, and be as functional as possible.

Moreover, kitchens are incredible selling points in a house. Most real estate experts will tell you that most of the time, you’re not selling a house, but you’re selling a kitchen, so it’s something you need to focus on during home renovations.

Here are some valuable tips to keep in mind as you embark on renovating space into your dream kitchen.

Plan the Layout Wisely

When coming up with a floor plan for your new kitchen, it’s essential to keep the focus on the workstations—both where they are and how much space they should occupy.

You’ll want to pay special attention to the stove, sink, and refrigerator placement. These are your main workstations, and you probably do a lot of back and forth between these spots, so you want them somewhat close.

But it’s also important to consider the fact that sometimes there can be more than one or two people working in the kitchen. Someone could be washing the dishes while another person is cooking at the stove. So, you don’t want the space to feel too crammed by putting these workstations too close, either.

It’s best to form a triangle between the sink, stove, and refrigerator to maintain a proper flow.

Design a Kitchen with Plenty of Storage

There is plenty you need to store in a kitchen, from appliances to pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery. And we haven’t even come to the food.

While, obviously, a large pantry is a must-have, you also need other storage options like cabinets, drawers, and extra niches.

Pantries are great for storing food, but they can take up space from floor to ceiling. As an alternative, you could create extra storage underneath your kitchen island. Or include some pull-out drawers and shelves in strategic spaces that would otherwise remain unused.

Make Sure You’re Selecting Material for Quality and Not Just Looks

While, of course, you want your dream kitchen to look the part, you can’t focus on the appearance alone. All materials and finishes you pick not only need to look great but also have to be durable. Ideally, buy the best quality your budget will allow.

This is because the better the quality, the longer your kitchen will hold up over time. Materials that cost less may look beautiful on the outside, but they break down faster, showing chips, scratches, and wear and tear. Cheaper materials can cost you more in repairs or replacements a few years down the road.
